Donau Announces Carbon Neutral Status, Commits to Sustainable Future
Donau is proud to announce that it is now a carbon neutral business, marking a major milestone in its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Working closely with the independent consultancy Carbon Footprint Ltd, Donau conducted a thorough assessment of its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. While 42% of Donau’s emissions were linked to its supply chain, the company chose to focus first on emissions directly within its control. These were calculated to be 188 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) per year.
A significant insight from the assessment revealed that 65% of these emissions come from natural gas consumption in Donau’s factory heating system, highlighting a key area for future improvement.
In response, Donau has developed a multi-faceted sustainability plan that includes:
- Partnering with suppliers to implement supply chain emission reduction strategies.
- Collaborating with their landlord to transition away from gas-powered heating to more sustainable energy alternatives in the long term.
- Introducing driver training programmes to improve fuel efficiency and reduce vehicle emissions.
- Exploring options to transition to electric vehicles for their transport fleet.
- Offsetting unavoidable emissions by purchasing verified carbon offsets from Carbon Neutral Britain to achieve and maintain carbon neutrality.
Donau’s proactive approach reflects a genuine commitment not only to measuring and reducing its environmental impact but also to supporting broader industry efforts towards a sustainable future.
Darren Church, Managing Director of Donau, said:
“I’m proud to have taken a step towards making meaningful change. We have aligned ourselves with internationally recognised verified schemes and global environmental projects, ensuring our actions contribute to a healthier planet. This also enhances our reputation for offering specialised cleaning services to our prestigious hotels and clients in the London area.”
